This year’s military veterans pre-conference program is designed to offer you strategies for every aspect of the hiring and retention process.  You will discover easy-to-apply tips for effectively recruiting, hiring and retaining military veterans, transitioning service members, and our men and women serving in the National Guard and Reserve.  The program will also include workplace strategies for military spouses and families.  Learn from successful examples of workplace strategies to maximize this talent pool.

Creating and Working Your Military Inclusiveness Strategy

In this session, you’ll discover the top 10 reasons to hire veterans and retain your reservists; conduct an organizational SWOT to ensure a military-friendly culture; learn about tax incentives for hiring veterans and those with disabilities; and understand the ROI of tying your military hiring strategy to your organization’s goals.  This session will provide specific action steps necessary to develop and implement your strategies as well as define measurements of success.

A Fresh Perspective from Job Design to Outreach, Interviews & On-the-Job Accommodations

This session provides valuable strategies for finding qualified veteran applicants from a variety of credible sources, helps you decode a military resume, develop interview questions to draw out relevant skills and experience, and correlate the value of military experience and skills to your organization’s business roles.  You’ll also understand your responsibilities under the ADA Amendments Act, de-bunk the myths about traumatic brain injury and PTSD, know where to find guidance for on-the-job accommodations, and create a culturally-sensitive on-boarding plan and orientation program.

Creating Inclusive Workplace Strategies to Retain Veterans, Reservists and Military-Connected Talent

This session focuses on the win/win solutions—what works for a military talent pool works for everyone in the organization. You will learn employer responsibilities under USERRA, how to incorporate affinity groups and Vet-to-Vet mentorship programs, develop your organization’s community culture for understanding and support of those serving in the military and their families, and the value of workplace flexibility. You will also learn the latest tools and resources to help you successfully hire, retain and maximize the value of this talent pool.
